On way from Beer Sheva to Haran Yaakov dreams of angels ascending & descending on a ladder, God confirms continuation of covenant of land & seed with Yaakov who then calls the place Beit El (Oral Torah teaches that this place is Mount Moriah where Avaraham bound Yitzhak and where the Temple would later stand), Yaakov sets up the stone he rested his head on as a pillar to become a house of God and promises to tithe a tenth of whatever God blesses him with, Yaakov meets Rachel at a well in Haran and falls in love at first sight, Yaakov works 7 years to earn Rachel, Lavan substitutes Leah for Rachel, Yaakov works another 7 years to earn Rachel, Leah bears 4 sons (Reuven & Shimon & Levi & Judah), Rachel does not conceive so gives her maidservant Bilhah to Yaakov, Bilhah bears Dan & Naftali, Leah sees that she has stopped having children and gives her maidservant Zilpah to Yaakov, Zilpah bears Gad & Asher, Leah again conceives and bears Issakhar & Zevulun & Dina, Rachel conceives and bears Yosef, Yaakov prepares to return home and enters into a contract with Lavan then prospers with spotted & speckled sheep, Yaakov flees with his wives & children & livestock, Lavan pursues and Yaakov inadvertently invites Rachel's death because he does not know that she took her father's terafim/idols, Lavan and Yaakov agree to a boundary at Galaed, Lavan kisses & blesses & departs, angels of God encounter Yaakov as he goes on his way at Machanaim
