Torah or science?

both!!

If the Bible and science seem to conflict, then our understanding needs updating. These methods view reality from different perspectives; while science reflects bottom-up investigation of our world, the Word of God claims top-down revelation from Beyond.

young universe or evolution?

neither!!

Believing that everything assembled by random chance is irrational. Chaos does not spontaneously form complex order; the universe and genetic code show clear evidence of design.

While we see natural selection and great variety within species, this is not evolution. Plants and animals propagate according to their DNA; rocks don't reproduce, trees make trees, dogs make dogs, people make people.

We weren't there at the beginning of creation, so let's not divide over things we can't be sure of. It's not necessary to believe that the universe is less than 6,000 years old to believe in the Word of God!

Torah and science agree that the earliest human civilizations began in the 6th millennium BCE, approximately 5,800 years ago. The current Hebrew year 5782 (as of 2022) is calculated from Biblical geneologies and dates from creation of Adam on the 6th "day", not from creation of the universe.

God placed the sun, moon, and stars on the 4th "day" of creation:

יְהִ֤י מְאֹרֹת֙ בִּרְקִ֣יעַ הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם

לְהַבְדִּ֕יל בֵּ֥ין הַיּ֖וֹם וּבֵ֣ין הַלָּ֑יְלָה

וְהָי֤וּ לְאֹתֹת֙ וּלְמ֣וֹעֲדִ֔ים

וּלְיָמִ֖ים וְשָׁנִֽים

בראשית א:יד

"And God said,

'Let there be luminaries in the expanse of the sky

to differentiate the day from the night;

they will serve as signs for appointed times,

and for days and years.'"

Genesis 1:14

This leaves room for previous "days" to be eons of time:

2 Peter 3:8

Literal truth of every word in all versions of the Bible is impossible given the diversity of translations. As we know, the adversary/the satan distorts Scripture in order to deceive and divide God's people. Pairing something false with something true slips in the lie and confuses the reality.

Matthew 19:4 is a verse that is often translated in a misleading way. Please note the extra "them" (often italicized to show it is added) which changes the meaning to seem like God created humans at the beginning of the universe:

"And He answered and said to them,

'Have you not read,

that He who created them from the beginning

made them male and female?'"
