Roots & Fruit

Updated: Feb 23, 2023

כִּי הָאָדָם עֵץ הַשָּׂדֶה

דברים כ:יט

"for the man is the tree of the field"

Deuteronomy 20:19

the tree is rooted in the earth

the man is rooted in the heavens

roots

need water

to grow trees

that bear

fruit

Yeshua as Messiah,

Word of God,

offers living water

flowing from our Source of life:

הוֹי כָּל-צָמֵא

לְכוּ לַמַּיִם

ישציה נה:א

"Ho, all who are thirsty,

come for the water."

Isaiah 55:1

"But everyone who drinks

from the water that I will give him,

will never thirst;

but the water that I give him,

will become in him a spring of water

flowing to eternal life."

John 4:14

תורה

Torah

(teachings, Word of God)

like water

מים

Mayim

flows down from the heavens

שמים

Shamayim

"Sham-Mayim" means "there-water"

וּשְׁאַבְתֶּם-מַיִם בְּשָׂשׂוֹן

מִמַּעַיְנֵי הַיְשׁוּעָה

ישעיה יב:ג

"And you will draw water with joy

from the springs of salvation."

Isaiah 12:3

"For as the rain comes down,

and the snow from the heavens

and returns not there,

but waters the earth

and makes it sprout and grow;

and give seed to the sower and bread to the eater:

So shall be My Word that goes out from My mouth,

it will not come back to Me void,

but will accomplish what I desire,

and will succeed in what I sent it to do."

Isaiah 55:10-11

"Blessed is the man

who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked

nor stand in the way of sinners,

nor sit in the seat of scorners.

But his delight is in the Torah of HaShem,

and in His Torah he meditates day and night.

He will be like a tree planted by streams of water,

which yields its fruit in its season

and its leaf will not wither;

and whatever he does will prosper."

Psalms 1:1-3

As we receive the living water of the Word of God,

we are cleansed both by and for contact with the Divine.

הִנֵּה שֵׂה הָאֱלֹהִים

הַנּוֹשֵׂא אֶת חַטַּאת הָעוֹלָם!

הכרזת יוחנן א:כט

“Behold, the Lamb of God

who takes away the sin of the world!"

John 1:29

How does Yeshua take away the sin of the world?

After all, there clearly is still sin in the world.

Please compare:

"Behold, the shower

that takes away the dirt from your body!"

Believing in the shower is only the beginning;

we must enter into the cleansing water.

כְּדֵי לְקַדְּשָׁהּ וּלְטַהֲרָהּ

בִּרְחִיצַת הַמַּיִם

וּבַדָּבָר

אגרת שאול אל האפסים ה:כו

"to make her (the congregation) holy and pure

in the washing of the water

and in the Word"

Ephesians 5:26

So do we need to be perfect?

  • both natural children (Jews) and adopted childen (Gentiles) in the family of God, as in any good family, don't need to be perfect in order to belong and to be loved

  • but it's not okay for them to scorn their family and live like children on the street

  • like any good parent, God nurtures and teaches and grows His children as they abide in His family through Word and Spirit

We are the Temple;

when we receive the Word,

the Spirit of God enters.

אוֹ הַאֵינְכֶם יוֹדְעִים שֶׁגּוּפְכֶם הֵיכָל הוּא

שֶׁל רוּחַ הַקֹּדֶשׁ הַשּׁוֹכֶנֶת בָּכֶם

אֲשֶׁר קִבַּלְתֶּם מֵאֵת הָאֱלֹהִים

וְאֵין אַתֶּם שֶׁל עַצְמְכֶם?

אגרת שאול הראשונה אל הקורינתים ו:יט

"Or don't you know that your body is a temple

of the Holy Spirit who abides in you,

whom you have received from God,

and you are not your own?"

1 Corinthians 6:19

Anxiety

is a natural response

to being on a temporary fragile journey

without purpose

or connection with home.

Our best solution for anxiety is

Shalom

the peace that passes understanding

when

Spirit/Word/Voice/Messiah

connect us with our Creator.

Each soul has unique lessons to learn and light to shine.

Spirit vitalizes flesh

as a spark lights a candle.

We are created to live connected to our Source,

the One Eternal Almighty God.

נֵ֣ר יְ֭הוָה נִשְׁמַ֣ת אָדָ֑ם

חֹ֝פֵ֗שׂ כָּל־חַדְרֵי־בָֽטֶן

תהילים כ:כז

"The candle of HaShem is the soul of man

searching all the inner parts."

Proverbs 20:27

Believers enter into a covenant relationship with God.

וִהְיִיתֶם לִי לְעָם

וְאָנֹכִי אֶהְיֶה לָכֶם לֵאלֹהִים

ירמיה ל:כב

"And you will be my people,

and I will be your God."

Jeremiah 30:22

A covenant is a contract with promises on both sides.

Our contract with God is signed with blood

which carries the flow of life.

We keep this eternal covenant through:

מצוות

Mitzvot

commandments/connections

established by God through His Word

This Hebrew noun comes from same root as the verb:

לצוות

Letzavot

to command, order, direct

to team up, bind, unite

related words include:

צוות

Tzevet

team

בצוותא

Betzavta

together

So mitzvot

are both commandments from and connections with God.

Mitzvot join the spiritual and physical in our lives and world.

 פִּקּוּדֵי יְהוָה יְשָׁרִים

מְשַׂמְּחֵי-לֵב

מִצְוַת יְהוָה בָּרָה

מְאִירַת עֵינָיִם

תהילים יט:ט

"The precepts of HaShem are right,

rejoicing the heart;

the mitzvah of HaShem is pure,

enlightening the eyes."

Psalms 19:9

"And Yeshua said to him:

'You should love HaShem your God

with all your heart

and with all your soul

and with all your might

and with all your mind.

This the first and the greatest mitzvah. And the second is like it:

You should love your neighbor as yourself.

On these two mitzvot

hang the Torah and the prophets.'"

Matthew 22:37-40

As water transforms parched land,

Word/Spirit nourishes souls.

All else is like pouring chemicals on a desert

which needs water to bloom.

There is no substitute to satisfy our eternal selves.

דברים לב:ב

"May my discourse come down like rain,

my speech like the dew;

like showers on grass,

like raindrops on herbs."

Deuteronomy 32:2

הַעִידֹ֨תִי בָכֶ֣ם הַיּוֹם֮ אֶת־הַשָּׁמַ֣יִם וְאֶת־הָאָרֶץ֒

לָתֵ֥ת לָהֶֽם

דברים ל:יט-כ

"This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses before you

that I have set before you life and death

the blessing and the curse;

now choose life

so that you and your children will live

to love HaShem your God,

to heed His voice,

and to cleave to Him;

for He is your life and the length of your days

to dwell upon the land that HaShem swore to your ancestors,

to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob,

to give to them."

Deuteronomy 30:19-20

אִם אֶת מִצְווֹתַי תִּשְׁמְרוּ

תַּעַמְדוּ בְּאַהֲבָתִי

כְּפִי שֶׁאֲנִי שָׁמַרְתִּי אֶת מִצְווֹת אָבִי

וְעוֹמֵד אֲנִי בְּאַהֲבָתוֹ

הכרזת יוחנן ד:יד

“If you keep my mitzvot,

you will abide in my love;

just as I have kept the mitzvot of my Father

and I abide in His love."

John 15:10

אַשְׁרֵי הָעוֹשִׂים אֶת מִצְווֹתָיו

לְמַעַן יִהְיֶה שִׁלְטוֹנָם עַל עֵץ הַחַיִּים

וְיִכָּנְסוּ בַּשְּׁעָרִים הָעִירָה

התגלות כב:יד

"Blessed are they who do His mitzvot,

that they may have access to the tree of life

and may enter through the gates into the city."

Revelation 22:14
